What defines each of us varies over time, based on your priorities, and how you want to project yourself to others. The aspects of yourself that define you include your · Opinions · Actions · Thoughts · Appearance · Personality · Abilities · Your work · Relationships · Self-image · Beliefs · Perceptions · Experiences · Defects · Imperfections · Flaws · Desires · Scars · Personal conflicts and difficulties · Hardships · Talents · Emotions And more All of these make up how you think about yourself as well as how others form their opinions of you. What makes you unique, therefore, is entirely up to you and how you wish to define yourself. Unfortunately, most of what creates unhappiness and insecurity in our world today is the result of how we allow others to perceive us and what we are willing to accept as others’ opinions of ourselves. When you learn to accept that it is your own definition of identity and what you value and believe that defines you, you can learn to be comfortable with the unique aspects yourself. When you are able to accept and value what you believe to be important in life, versus what others’ or social norms say are important, you can develop an inner peace and inspiration that provides you with self-confidence. But, the first step to knowing this important information is understanding yourself. Be Honest With Yourself If you want to discover the many interesting and unique aspects of who you are, you have to be willing to be completely honest with yourself. That includes acknowledging and understanding the positive and negative aspects of your personality. If you are not honest with yourself, you’ll never really know the deepest recesses of your personality that are a part of you, nor will you ever be able to make changes that can help you achieve everything you want in life. The Benefits Of Knowing Yourself Over centuries, many great philosophers and thinkers have advocated for the importance of knowing oneself. Perhaps the best known of these is Socrates, who famously wrote, “Know thyself.” What does it really mean, though, to know yourself? Let’s consider getting to know yourself kind of like dating. While learning the favorite color or taste in music of the person you are dating can be somewhat helpful information, those things don’t really tell you anything meaningful about who that person is. If you really want to know who that person is, you want to dig deeper to get to understand their motivations, ambitions, values, and vulnerabilities. Those things are, after all, what tell you who someone really is, right? The same is true for getting to know yourself. Self-exploration requires you to confront all aspects of yourself, from the positives and gifts to the insecurities and fears. Each of these plays a role in formulating who you are, so they each deserve attention and understanding. Most of us tend to just go through life without really questioning who we are or worrying too much about questions of identity. A lack of self-reflection can force you into a life of constant reaction to events rather than making conscious choices that are aligned with what you believe and want in life. When you don’t examine yourself, you can lose sight of your goals and dreams, leading to missed opportunities in life that could impair your happiness and fulfillment. What benefits can come from an in-depth exploration of yourself? The list is nearly endless, but there are a few very significant benefits you can experience, but I'll cover those in the next post. Questions or comments? Leave them below and tell me what you think.

Becoming your own best champion is a part of the process of choosing yourself first. It's improving and nurturing the relationship you have with yourself. It is essential for positive self-development, your growth. If you aren't your biggest advocate, it'll be difficult to achieve happiness. How can you master this? The process of becoming your own champion requires effort and a willingness to assess yourself. If you want to take ownership of your happiness and start being your own champion, here's how you can begin. Highlight Your Positive Qualities First, you have to highlight your strengths. Think about the things you excel at and continue to focus on those qualities. It's counterproductive when you only think about your negative qualities. Instead, repeat this affirmation daily: I am strong, confident, and able to accomplish anything. Encourage Yourself Cheerleaders encourage their team to keep going even in the face of defeat. If you want to be your own best cheerleader, learn how to encourage yourself even when you aren't at your best. This involves learning how to pick yourself up after a bad day, a breakup, or loss. Tell yourself that you are able to overcome any potential obstacle with the power of self. Engage in a self-care routine. Or, take some much needed time off. When you set aside time to recharge, you are giving yourself an opportunity to come back stronger. Take Care of Your Needs Since we're on the subject of self-care, learn how to engage in this activity regularly. Social media will have you believe that self-care routines must be perfectly executed baths with soothing music. While those are much needed, and should be a part of your self-care practices, it is very important that you learn how to incorporate self-care into your daily routine. Here are a few practical self-care activities you can engage in right now: Read a good book Go for a walk or run Have a conversation with a friend Make yourself a delicious cup of coffee Make your self-care a priority so you don't become overwhelmed. This will help you to become your own best champion. Don't Be Afraid to Eliminate Toxic People or Situations Cleaning out your mental closet is refreshing. It can help you become in-tuned with your needs and focus on your happiness. Sometimes, when we aren't feeling as confident as we should, it's because we're exposing ourselves to negativity. One of the primary ways we can avoid this is to cut out anything that doesn't serve us. This can be in the form of entertainment, people, even jobs. If you find yourself constantly exposed to negativity, you may find it hard to see the beauty in yourself. Here are a few ways to eliminate toxicity: Take a social media break Take a break from the drama-filled reality tv shows Ignore your needy and negative friend Get rid of unnecessary clutter Whatever is making you stressed or feeling less confident, eliminate it. You will soon find yourself feeling lighter and happier. Advocate For Yourself If you want to be a champion, you have to know how to stand up for yourself. This could mean vocally expressing your needs or even taking a silent stand against something you don't agree with. If you want to be a champion, you have to be strong in the face of adversity. Instead of cowering away, look your adversary straight in the face. Speak up for yourself so you can get the treatment you deserve. This will help you to understand your capabilities and become your own fan. Being your own champion requires a lot of mental effort. It is easy to victimize yourself, but you're only hurting your progress. Take your self-development seriously and become your biggest champion. Only you can change the way you perceive yourself. |
