It’s not always easy to find the goodness in life, especially when money is tight and you’re faced with worries about your job or family. These worries can often cloud your whole mind, bring your mood down, and affect your overall quality of life. If you feel like you’re being followed by the ominous black cloud of bad luck, then it’s time to find something to be grateful for in your life. Remind Yourself About What’s Going Right If you’re plagued by negative thoughts, find a quiet place, grab a pen and paper and make a list of answers to this question: What do I have to be grateful for in my life? Start your list with the most obvious things, your health and family. Do you have a car? A home? Clothes on your back? Food on the table?
You can also try to sit quietly in a room and meditate on your life and things you want to improve on. Appreciating what you already have in life will free you to make the changes you desire. Being Grateful In Spite of Setbacks There’s no denying that you will suffer setbacks in life. It’s a fact of life! While it may be difficult to be grateful during these times, it’s important to remember that good can come from difficult situations. For example, if you’ve recently lost your job, be grateful for the skills you have. With your skills, experience, and the knowledge you possess, you may end up finding a more fulfilling job that gives you more money or more responsibility while being closer to home. As strange as it may sound in the moment of despair, try to be grateful during difficult times because, as one door closes, another opens the way to new opportunities. After all, you can’t find bright new possibilities in your life if you don’t experience a setback at one point or another. Be Thankful For Life’s Setbacks Setbacks are there to challenge you to be better, stronger, faster, and wiser. The true test of your attitude is to be thankful for the obstacle ahead of you (even if you don’t understand why it exists in the first place), then push forward, stronger than ever. Why should you be thankful? Because with each challenge you overcome, you gain the wisdom and courage to succeed the next time around. And if it weren’t for each and every challenge in your life, you’d never learn and grow! Being grateful everyday will help you lift that overbearing black cloud that can be so stifling. You’ll begin realize that life is good and you can make it through anything. After all, good things come to those who wait!

The common cold is something we have all experienced at some point, and undoubtedly, we will cross paths with again on our journey. It seems like an inevitable part of life -- especially if you have little ones in the house, work in a large office, take the subway or fly frequently. I'm currently recovering from a cold that I contracted in Hawaii, one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and definitely not a place I would expect to pick up a cold!
However, germs are everywhere, and without the ability to see them lingering, we can’t always avoid them. Even though we can’t fully evade germs, there are many simple, natural things we can do to prevent those germs from winning the fight against our immune system – and even shorten the lifespan of the cold if and when we do happen to get sick. You don’t even have to leave the kitchen to find a slew of helpful immune boosters. My favorite foods that can help combat an illness and boost the immune system are ... 1. Garlic — if you can stomach raw garlic, this is the best option. Adding it into tea is another option, if you enjoy the taste. If you’re not a big fan of garlic and you’re staring at your screen in horror at the thought of eating raw garlic ... have no fear. Just cook with it as much as possible when you’re feeling a cold coming on, or if like me, you are currently battling one. Toss in several cloves during each meal and enjoy the benefits. 2. Probiotics — we’re programmed to hear the word bacteria and think it’s a bad thing, but good bacteria exists and your body needs it. Probiotics provide your body with the good bacteria it needs to function at its best. You can take probiotics as a liquid supplement, capsule, or you can enjoy the probiotic properties of fermented foods such as sauerkraut and kombucha. 3. Cloves — it doesn’t have to be the holiday season for you to break out the cloves. Cloves have incredible properties that help the body fight against germs, alleviate pain and even helps with loosening the phlegm that you may be battling with a cold. 4. Cayenne — this is another simple option that you can sprinkle on any meal. Adding that pop of spice can help decrease the mucus buildup and assist with easing your sore throat and congestion. Adding fresh lemon and cayenne into boiling water as a homemade tea packs a punch against that cold you’re battling. Lemons are high in Vitamin C, which only helps boost the immune system response. There are many more natural ways to boost your immune system, but starting with a few will help you have other options in battling your next cold. Make a note of these foods and remember them the next time you feel a cold coming on. What are your favorite natural ways to fight off an illness? Tell me in comments box below, I’d love to hear any tricks you may have! Most parents tell their kids that life goes by quickly. Kids often ignore this advice until one day they find themselves giving the same advice to their kids. We have a limited number of days on this planet. Because of this, you should appreciate people in your life. When you start to approach your mid years, your older relatives are going to pass away. You will regret not having spent more time with them while they were still alive. Life gets busy, to be sure. But, we need to make time to spend and appreciate our elders. Their time is more limited than ours, all things being equal. And as they age, they need the love of family. They realize it more than people who are younger, that they won’t be around much longer. Conversely, we need to appreciate our kids and encourage them to spend time with us, for the very same reasons. Your mid years will soon turn into your advanced years. You will be the one realizing that there’s not much time left. Aside from family, we need to have friends as well. Our friends complete us and give us a more rewarding life. Appreciating friends is just as important as appreciating family. In many instances, friends will move away and we don’t hear from them again. It’s important to make an effort to keep in contact. This is not an easy task. Appreciation is about being grateful. It’s about taking the time and thanking them for being a part of your life. Always be willing to help your friends and family. Be grateful for the little things that people do as well as the big things. Make sure you let the people in your life know you are there for them. Don’t just say the words. Take appropriate action, if needed. Sometimes, people don’t like to ask for help. Consider showing up even if they say they don’t need help. Often, they admit that you helped and made their lives easier. Sometimes, appreciation is simply listening to others and finding out what they truly want or what they dream about. If you can later help them realize their dreams, they will be just as appreciative of you as you are of them. If you want to be appreciative, be willing to give more than you take. This will set the stage that you are a caring person and it shows that you appreciate people. It’s easy and rewarding at the same time. Appreciating people is showing gratitude. Gratitude is a part of a healthy mind-set. Your mindset is a part of your journey to Self-Mastery. It's the little things really. But little isn't really so little, is it? |
